Building on last year's highly successful "Art At Risk" conference, which focused on aspects of collecting fine art, we are pleased to announce we will be hosting another conference focused this year on collectibles from popular culture.

The inspiration for the day is the stolen pair of Judy Garland's ruby red slippers that, after being retrieved by the FBI, had to be authenticated by the Smithsonian to prove she actually wore them. The process resulted in the shoes, going from simply being a charming collectible, to acquiring a value of millions of dollars.

After defining our terms and talking about the current collecting climate, we will then present a few case studies designed to be enlightening and thought-provoking, alternating with panel discussions on various aspects of creating, protecting and disposing of a collection of objects associated with popular culture. The issues covered will include, but will not be limited to, making informed decisions, authentication/forensics, appraisals, insurance, conservation/storage, disposition of objects/collections, the individual collector, institutional collections and the like.

Presenters will include David Shapiro, Senior Appraiser, Victor Weiner Fine Art on collecting from popular culture; Simon Willis, Winston Art Group, on Bob Dylan's "Newport" guitar; and Lark Mason, CEO of Lark Mason and frequent appraiser on "Antiques Roadshow" on the sale of the Anthony Bourdain collection. A full agenda will follow shortly.

The fee for the day is $325 which includes breakfast, lunch and a reception following the conference. There will also be ample networking opportunities throughout the day.
