Insurance companies manage their assets in the most challenging environment of any institutional investor. In addition to navigating increasingly complex capital markets, insurers must respond to a host of regulatory and rating agency considerations, all while underwriting risks leveraged off the very same capital base upon which the investment portfolio resides. After a protracted period of low interest rates, insurers' investment portfolios have become more broadly diversified to include a wide range of private and alternate asset classes.
Investment Committees of the Boards of these insurers are asked to approve the allocation of their assets, and often approve the trades themselves, frequently without the benefit of professional insurance asset management backgrounds or experience. If the Board and Investment Committee are not employing best practices overseeing the investment portfolio, they may be taking considerable oversight risk. The solution is to provide Investment Committee Board Members and senior insurance executives with education about important issues in an unbiased, academic environment, taught by leading experts in the field.
Insurance AUM is teaming-up with St. John's University's Tobin Center for Executive Education and Talcott Capital Partners to provide an intensive seminar on these issues delivered by industry professionals, designed specifically for insurance company Board Investment Committee executives. The program will provide lunch, an after-session cocktail hour, and numerous opportunities to network with other members of investment committees.
